DADE CITY, Fla. – The 91
st-ranked Florida Atlantic University women's golf team earned a program-best sixth-place finish in the Conference USA Championships, gaining significant help from
Justine Fournand, who set another program record by finishing third individually.
FAU (895) improved with each passing round, going from ninth after the first 18 holes to eight after the second and finishing sixth. Fournand followed the same trend, posting a 73 in Round One, a 71 in Round Two and a 69 (-3) in Round Three.
"I'm pleased we played a little better today," FAU coach
Aimee Neff said. "It was great to see Justine have a strong finish! She's had a terrific year. It's exciting to know we have the chance to improve next year as no one graduates. The future is bright for us and we look to keep building and working for a great next season! Go Owls!"
Only one FAU player earned a top-20 finish in the Conference USA Championship prior to Fournand, as Daniella Castaneda tied for 19
th in 2016. FAU's highest team finish in the event was 10
th prior to Wednesday's results.
Rosa Barnak (T23) joined Fournand in the top-25 by following the same pattern of continuous improvement. After posting a 76 in Round One, Barnak responded with a 74 and 73 in the second and third rounds, respectively.
This is the third consecutive top-three finish for Fournand, who won her two previous tournaments. The France native has been FAU's top finisher all but one of her college tournaments.
