BOCA RATON, Fla. – Aiding the Owls to a win over Charlotte, previously undefeated in the league, has earned Florida Atlantic University true freshman
Amit Cohen this week's Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week award.
Â
In the 1-0 victory, Cohen picked up her first win and clean sheet of her collegiate career, turning away nine Charlotte shot attempts and two on goal. She earned two saves, pushing FAU to 2-1-1 in C-USA play and handing the 49ers their first league loss of the season.
"I am very happy and honored to receive this individual recognition but couldn't do it without my teammates," said Cohen. "The team played very well and fought to get this win, and I am very happy that we succeeded. I am looking for our next game and continuing our winning streak."
"I'm really excited for Amit on receiving this award," added assistant and goalkeeping coach
Cameron Fertenbaugh. "I thought she had a really complete game. She dealt with through balls, crosses, and managed the game well – all important things that don't always show up in the stat line, but help our team so much. Even though Amit comes in with a variety of experience, this was her first win, shutout, and GK of the week at the college level. The performance (and recognition) is big for her confidence moving forward. You can tell it means a lot to her. She's worked so hard to get this opportunity and it's good to see all the hard work being paid off. Our training with both Amit and Cass this season has been top notch and both are working extremely hard. As a coach, it makes me really happy to see them individually and collectively get recognized. I'm excited to see where we can get to with this GK union."

Cohen joins fellow keeper
Cassidy Wasdin as a weekly league honoree this season, as Wasdin was named C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week on March 2 following another Owls' 1-0 win, over Miami. This is the first league award for Cohen in her  career.

The Owls are on the road this Friday night, in the next-to-last match of the regular season, at Middle Tennessee. Game time is 8 p.m. Eastern in Murfreesboro.
