Wasdin Earns C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week Honors

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Fresh off a shutout victory this past Sunday against Miami, Cassidy Wasdin of Florida Atlantic University women's soccer has been named as Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced Monday by the league.

Wasdin turned in her second clean sheet of the year, in as many matches, in the Owls' first victory of 2021, 1-0 over the Hurricanes. She faced seven shot attempts, with three successful saves, in all 90 minutes in goal. FAU has not given up a score since their first two opponents combined for eight on opening weekend.

"This past weekend was a tremendous team effort," said Wasdin. "We had some girls play in different positions and they stepped up big time to make my job easier. I think we were all excited to get back out on the field and perform well before we head into conference play. Proud of the team's hard work and excited to see what this group will do the rest of the season!"

"I'm very proud of Cass, she's starting this season where she left off in 2019 – only this time with a younger backline," added assistant and goalkeeping coach Cameron Fertenbaugh. "She is not only doing her job at a high level but she is now leading and organizing our backline at a high level. She's always been a great leader but this year we're really seeing those qualities have an impact on our team. Over the past year of training she has added a bunch of elements to her game and she's seeing the benefits come out in the last couple of games. Excited to see where she goes from here."

For the redshirt sophomore – last year a member of the C-USA All-Freshman Team, as well as Second Team All-C-USA – this is the fifth weekly honor of her two-year career. She and the Owls begin league play this weekend, on the road at Marshall Friday night.
