2/19/2021 5:44:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Â
In the first half, the Owls got three shots off in a little over a minute, but JU's keeper wouldn't allow any find the back of the net. In the 24th minute, JU took their first shot in the contest, but Neil Strauber was there for his first of three saves on the day. Although FAU had the edge in shots, 5-1, the first half ended at 0-0.
Â
The Owls made their way to the board in the 48th minute off a JU own goal. A JU defender tried to clear the ball back to the goalie, but the ball had other plans, making its way to the back of the net for the Owls' own benefit. FAU extended the lead in the 64th minute, as Arturo Ernand stuck to the low right of the net for his first goal of the season off a Daniel Skistad assist. The Owls were not done yet, as Dean shared the love to Célestin Theodore, who found the sweet spot in the low right of the net to put the Owls up 3-0.
Â
JU fouled inside the box at the 77th minute, setting Alonso Coello Camarero up for a penalty kick try, but the JU keeper came up with the save. Coello Camarero would get another opportunity at the 85th minute, as JU fouled in the penalty box once again. The Madrid, Spain native's penalty kick was good, and the Owls put the game even more out of reach. FAU won its first road win of the season in commanding fashion, 4-0.
Â
- Coello Camarero got four shots off, three on goal, while playing all 90 minutes of the match. His good penalty kick marked his second goal of the season
- Ernand cashed in on his first goal of the season, third of career, while getting two shots off
- Theodore logged his first career goal and only needed one shot to do it
- Skistad and Dean had the two assists in the game. Skistad recorded the first point of his collegiate career, while Dean tallied his fourth career assist
- Strauber recorded his third blank sheet in the first four games of the season and tallied three saves as well
- The Owls outshot the Dolphins, 12-3
- FAU's backline held it down once again with Skistad, Graeme Pratt and Vasilis Spinos playing all 90 minutes
"I'm so proud of, and happy for the guys," said head coach Joey Worthen. "Not only for the result but the way they played! To get another shutout, a win on the road against a good opponent and score how we did is proof of the quality and depth of this team. It was a great overall performance and we will look to build on it going into next week!"
ÂFAU will stay on the road to face Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Owls will be back home at FAU Soccer Stadium to face Kentucky on Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m.
