BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (4-6) put up a fight on the first of two days of the FAU Pre-Christmas Tournament, but dropped its contest to Richmond (7-4), 81-63. Both teams were tied at 49 with 1:56 left in the third quarter, but the Spiders outscored the Owls 27-14 in the fourth to elevate past FAU.
Kimia Carter had a career day in her first career start, logging 19 points off 7-for-13 shooting.

Kimia Carter got the Owls started with a nice drive to the basket, while getting fouled in the process. She converted the 3-point play to provide an early spark for the Owls.
Sofia Galeron then started to heat up, knocking down a long jumper followed by a 3-pointer. At the media timeout taken at 4:57, Galeron had logged nine of the Owls' first 14 points, as FAU led 14-8. The Owls fell in a drought from the field for over three minutes, but a Carter layup helped FAU put the Owls back on the board. The Owls led 20-12 after one quarter of play.

The Spiders continued on their run going into the beginning of the second quarter, scoring six unanswered points to creep within four points of FAU. Richmond then tallied three turnovers in a row, as FAU went on a 6-0 run.
Bre Beck then knocked down a 3-pointer and the Owls led 29-19 with 4:30 left in the first half. In the final three minutes of the quarter, Richmond slightly outscored the Owls, 7-6, but the Owls still held the advantage, 35-26 after shooting 41 percent from the field in the first half.

Richmond opened up the quarter on a 6-0 run, as FAU was up by three points. The Owls were in a hole from the field, but
Amber Gaston dug the Owls out with a layup. Richmond tied up the game off a 3-pointer with 6:30 left in the third and then took the lead for the first time since early on in the game off two free throws.
Kynadi Kuykendoll then tied up off a layup, but the Spiders knocked down a trey to knot up the game once again. FAU went 1-for-7 from the field, but then back-to-back layups by Gaston put the Owls up 47-44 with 2:54 remaining. Richmond ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 54-49 advantage going into the final 10 minutes of play.

Richmond continued to knock down shots, shooting 4-for-5 from 3-point land in the fourth quarter. The Owls were outscored 27-14 in the fourth quarter, as FAU fell 81-63.
