BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association announced its weekly swimming & diving awards on Tuesday afternoon. The FAU men's swimming & diving team swept the weekly honors, with
Alec Peckmann being named CCSA Swimmer of the Week and
Brandon Shepherd being named CCSA Diver of the Week.
Peckmann put forth an impressive performance in the Patriot Invitational. The senior from York, Pa., set two individual school records (100 IM, 49.22 & 200 IM, 1:47.13), along with being a part of one FAU relay record (400 free relay, 2:58.57). Additionally, Peckman set five Patriot Invitational meet records (200 IM, 200 free, 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay).
Over the course of the weekend, Peckmann tallied three individual first-place finishes as well as being a part of four first-place relay finishes. All of his individual times are lifetime bests. Peckmann additionally broke the 200 IM FAU school record along with the Patriot Invitational record twice (1:47.41 morning prelims, 1:47.13, night finals) and broke the 200 free meet record twice (1:38.17 morning prelims, 1:37.15 night finals). The CCSA Swimmer of the Week honor is the second this season for Peckmann.
Shepherd scores his third CCSA Diver of the Week honor of the season and his career for a strong effort in the Patriot Invitational. The Fort Myers, Fla., product captured second place out of eight divers in the 1-meter dive with a score of 277.50. He posted a 265.10 score in the prelims, good for third-best out of 17 divers, to advance to the finals.
Shepherd also captured third place out of eight divers in the 3-meter with a score of 281.10 in the final session. He qualified with a 318.45 score in the prelims, which topped the field of 15 divers. Both of his high scores, the 277.50 in the 1-meter and the 318.45 in the 3-meter, are personal bests.
Peckmann and Shepherd's efforts played a role in FAU's first-place finish as a team in the Patriot Invitational. The Owls won the mid-season meet for the first time in school history with 924 points.
