Alastuey, Skistad Earn Spots on CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

BOCA RATON, Fla. – On the day after a historical win in penalty kicks over Charlotte in the opening round of the 2021 Conference USA Men's Soccer Championship, two Owls earned recognition for their academic excellence. Jose Alastuey and Daniel Skistad were two of 15 tabbed to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Team. This marks Skistad's second year receiving the award and a first for Alastuey.

Jose Alastuey
Alastuey boasts one of the best GPAs on the team, maintaining a 3.93 GPA as a business management major. The Zaragoza, Spain native is a C-USA All-Academic choice, three-time Dean's List recipient (given to the top 3% of the college) and two-time President's List member. Alastuey has also been tabbed a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and two-time honoree to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.

On the pitch, Alastuey has played in all 17 matches while drawing the start in 13. The midfielder has logged four goals and two assists with his 10 points being the third most on the team. Alastuey has scored goals against UTRGV, Keiser, Old Dominion and Jacksonville. He tacked on his second career game-winning goal in the 3-0 ODU victory. Alastuey has played a huge role in the Owls' offense, taking several corner and free kicks, while boasting the best shot-on-goal percentage on the team with 0.706.

Daniel Skistad
Skistad earned his second all-academic award in as little as one week's time. He was recently one of three repeat selections to the 2021 C-USA All-Academic Team. Following the spring 2021 campaign, Skistad was a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region Team recipient and CoSIDA Academic All-District Team choice. A regular on the President's List and Dean's List, Skistad graduated summa cum laude with a 3.92 GPA with a double major in international business and business management in the spring. He is now enrolled in the MBA program, which recognizes superior academic performance by granting baccalaureate degrees of distinction to undergraduate students.

A competitor on the field as well, Skistad has started in five of 10 games he has appeared in. The defender has logged two assists and has played a role in four shutouts. Last season, Skistad played in all games to help the team achieve its lowest goals against average (0.92) and goals allowed (11) in a single season. A four-year player, the Drammen, Norway product has started in 44 of 52 career games at FAU.

FAU is set to face No. 2-seeded Marshall Friday, tomorrow, at 7 p.m. in the C-USA Championship Semifinals. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
