BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University women's basketball head coach Jennifer Sullivan has announced the signing of a quartet of student-athletes to their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday. Ajalon Gillard, Dyllan Hanna, Aniya Hubbard and Carlie Vick will all be eligible for the 2022-23 season.
Â
"We are really excited about this signing class. We have four tremendous players who come from incredible high school and AAU programs with winning tradition," said Sullivan. "A priority for me will always be to recruit players who are winners, who strive for competitive greatness and come from winning programs. These young women represent all three of those. Each player adds to the level of talent on our roster and I know they will be outstanding role models in our community."
Â
Ajalon Gillard, Guard (Winter Garden, Fla., West Orange HS)
Gillard is approaching her senior year on the West Orange High School team, while also playing AAU for Hoopdreams Elite. The Floridian guard is coming off an impressive junior year for the Warriors where she averaged 12.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Gillard was placed on the Orlando Sentinel All-Area Honorable Mention Team following the 2020-21 season.
Â
"Ajalon Gillard is an outstanding addition to our program. Ajalon is a 5-8 guard that has the ability to score at a high level from the point guard or combo guard position,"Â said Sullivan. "Her motor never stops and I know our fans will love her infectious energy. Ajalon has been coached by some of the best in our state including her father, Bruce Gillard. She has a chance to have a tremendous career for us."
Â
Dyllan Hanna, Forward (St. Augustine, Fla., Bartram Trail HS)
Hanna is also staying in the Sunshine State, wrapping up her senior year at Bartram Trail High School. Last season, Hanna averaged a near double-double across 19 games, logging 9.7 points and 10.6 rebounds, along with 2.7 blocks per game. The forward was tabbed to the 2020 All-St. Johns County First Team after leading the county her sophomore year with 11.0 rebounds per game with 3.6 blocks per contest. Hanna also plays AAU for East Coast United.
Â
"Dyllan Hanna is an impressive addition to our roster who can affect the game in many ways. She is a 6-2, strong, athletic rim protector and rebounder, who runs the floor hard and consistently finishes around the rim," said Sullivan. "Dyllan had an incredible summer, which was a reflection of her hard work and dedication to get better. I believe Dyllan has a high ceiling and she will continue to improve at the next level."
Â
Aniya Hubbard, Guard (Hoover, Ala., Hoover HS)
Hubbard brings in a winning attitude to the program, as she is coming off winning the 2021 Class 7A state championship with Hoover High School. The guard
also was named to the State Championship All-Tournament Team and is a First Team All-State selection. Hubbard also earned a spot on the AHSAA Girls Basketball All-Star Roster and plays for Alabama Twister Elite.
Â
"We are extremely excited to welcome Aniya Hubbard to our program. Aniya is 5-8 athletic wing with a scorer's mentality and who will be a disruptor on the defensive end of the floor," said Sullivan."Aniya is a competitor with a strong desire to win, and she is a state championship winner at one of the top high schools in Alabama. We are looking forward to being able to coach her and help take her game to another level."
Â
Carlie Vick, Forward (Saint Albans, Mo., Westminster Christian Academy)
Vick is going into her senior year as an impact player for Westminster Christian Academy. The Show Me State product is coming off the 2020-21 campaign having averaged 9.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game across 28 contests. Vick's most impressive game last season came against Incarnate Word where she tallied 21 points while shooting 8-for-12 from the field and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Vick also represents BlueStar STL in AAU play.
Â
"We are thrilled to add Carlie Vick, a 6-2 versatile post with the ability to play inside and out," said Sullivan. "Carlie has the ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc and she plays with a high IQ that make her a fierce and savvy competitor. Carlie comes from a great sports family and community. We believe she will make an immediate impact and we are overjoyed to add Carlie to our family."
