BOCA RATON, Fla. – In 2020, when almost nothing can be explained for why it happens, one thing is fully explainable. Former Florida Atlantic University women's tennis player Aliona Bolsova is one of six collegiate all-stars featured in the 2020 French Open women's singles main draw.
Bolsova, who reached the quarters one year ago, was 19-0 in singles play during her sophomore campaign at FAU, her lone season with the Owls. She won every match in straight sets and earned an Oracle ITA ranking of No. 2. Bolsova was named 2017-18 Conference USA Player of the Year and was invited to play in the NCAA National Tournament, but left the ranks of amateur tennis for the opportunity to elevate her play as a professional.
The Spanish-Moldovan star holds six ITF titles and a record of 164-83. She is currently ranked No. 102 in the world but has been as high as No. 88 (July 2019).
