Gorrell Signs with Newcastle Eagles

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Former Florida Atlantic University women's basketball player Ali Gorrell has inked a deal with the Newcastle Eagles of the British Basketball League. Gorrell is approaching her fifth season playing professional basketball overseas.

Gorrell is making her return to Newcastle after previously playing in the United Kingdom WBBL from 2016-19. The guard is coming from Inexio Royals Saalouis in the German DBBL, where she averaged 16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game in 19 games played during the 2019-20 season.

Before her stint playing in the Germany DBBL, Gorrell played for the Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters (British WBBL). She became the league's top scorer with 19.9 points per game, and accompanied that number with 8.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game in 22 contests.

Gorrell played two seasons for the Owls and was on the team from 2013-16. The guard was an All-Conference USA Second Team selection and a C-USA Preseason Team honoree in the 2015-16 season, where she led FAU with 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Gorrell sits seventh for most single-season assists (126), tied for fifth for highest career assists per game (3.2), eighth for most career free throws made (223) and 12th for most career assists (194) among the FAU ranks. The Evergreen, Colorado native also was tabbed to the C-USA All-Academic Team during her senior season.
