BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team took the court Wednesday morning for the first official practice of the 2020-21 season. FAU's season is set to begin in late November, following the NCAA DI Council's approval to push back the start of play.
The Owls ran through drills for the two hours of allotted practice time. Women's basketball brings back 13 returnees from the 2019-20 roster. Leading the returners is
Lotta Vehka-Aho, coming off her rookie year having averaged 12.6 points per game and tallying a team-leading 62 assists before missing the final six games of the season.
Juliette Gauthier is back for her third year after scoring 11.0 points per game and pulling down 7.2 boards per game, the 11th most in the conference.
Astou Gaye will hit the court one last year for her senior campaign following a season where she averaged 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
The Owls also welcome four new faces to the team with two being eligible to play in the 2020-21 season. Allen joins the team as a graduate transfer from Miami and
Bre Beck has made her way down to South Florida as a junior college transfer from Wabash Valley. Forwards
Sofia Galeron and Rozentale will be eligible to play this season following sitting out last year due to NCAA transfer rules.
Jabir is in his fourth season at the helm, 33rd overall as a head coach, while coming off last season having achieved his 500th career victory.
Terry Primm, Otavio Battaglia and
Arianne Stinson make up Jabir's coaching staff.
