BOCA RATON, Fla. – Mary O'Hara, a recently departed senior of the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team, is hoping to continue her career at the next level, as she has been invited to take part in upcoming tryouts for Utah Royals FC of the National Women's Soccer League.
O'Hara finished her four-year career having helped FAU to 50 victories, two Conference USA regular season crowns and four appearances in the postseason C-USA championship, twice advancing to the title game. She scored 20 career goals, 10th on the program's all-time list, including 11 this past year, sixth most in a single season FAU history. All told, she appeared in 84 matches, most of any Owl ever. The 2019 C-USA Midfielder of the Year earned two All-Region honors (2018 Third Team and 2019 First Team), and three times was C-USA All-Conference (2016 Third Team and 2018 and 2019 First Team, in addition to being 2016 All-Freshman).
"I am very excited for this opportunity to try out for Utah Royals FC," said O'Hara. "Being able to see and train in the team's facilities will be incredible. Also being able to train at such a high level will be an unforgettable experience. I look forward to seeing if I can take my playing to the next level."
The Royals are part of the top flight of domestic soccer in American, the NWSL. The club was established in December of 2017 and began play in the 2018 season. Home matches are played at Rio Tinto Stadium, a soccer-specific stadium with a capacity of 20,213 located in Sandy, Utah. O'Hara's tryout will take place on Feb. 23 at the club's Zions Bank Real Academy just outside of Salt Lake City.
"We are excited for Mary to have the opportunity to attend the Utah Royals FC tryouts in February," said head coach Patrick Baker. "She enjoyed a terrific senior year and led the team with 11 goals out of the attacking midfield position. Her overall level of play was exceptional game in and game out; on the ball and off the ball. She departs Florida Atlantic as one of its most decorated athletes ever. Mary has a wonderful opportunity to further her playing career in the NWSL and we will all be pulling for her."
