BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (8-9, 2-4 C-USA) fell victim to hot shooting by UAB (11-7, 3-3 C-USA), dropping Saturday's contest, 92-73. Crystal Primm tallied her third consecutive double-double in the game, putting up 30 points and 12 boards.
Â
Lotta Vehka-Aho put the Owls on the board with a second-chance basket, while getting fouled in the process and capitalized on the 3-point play. The Owls would then fall into a scoring drought for just under three minutes, which allowed the Blazers to go on a 10-0 run. With UAB making a 3-pointer at the buzzer, the Blazers had a 33-13 lead after one quarter of play.
Â
The Owls opened up the second quarter on a 7-2 run. Crystal Primm then made two jumpers within 41 seconds to cut the lead to 16, but the Blazers would round out the half on a 7-0 run, as the Owls went into locker room trailing, 55-33.
Â
In the second half, Primm started things off for the Owls with making a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired. She would continue to go to work, scoring nine of her 30 points in the quarter. Alexa Zaph and Abby Voss captured 3-pointers in the final minute of the third, but the Owls trailed, 81-56.
Â
The Owls would cut the lead in the fourth to 15 points with 3:36 left in the game, as FAU took advantage of UAB's eight turnovers within a span of five minutes. Primm tallied her 30th point after driving to the basket for a layup and getting fouled in the process to set up for a 3-point play. The Blazers would then drag out the clock and the Owls fell, 92-73.
