BOCA RATON, Fla.– This is the first in a series of features on the FAU men's basketball team. We start with forward Jailyn Ingram.
The Madison, Georgia product averaged 8.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in his first two seasons, but flourished under new head coach Dusty May, leading the Owls in both scoring (18.9 per game) and rebounding (8.2 per game).
When asked about the expectations after the coaching change, Ingram responded "Coach May wants guys that are going to play as hard as they can and give everything they have every night, so once we bought into that concept everything else fell into place. It definitely helped me."
However, in FAU's 10th game of the season, Ingram suffered an injury that forced him to miss the remainder of the year. With FAU able to record its first winning season since 2011 and make a postseason tournament appearance for the third time in school history, Ingram has chosen to focus on the positives.
Â
"(The injury) was a blessing in disguise. It gave me the chance to see the game from a different perspective," said Ingram. "When you're out on the floor, there are things that you don't see, but when you're on the sideline, you can see it all, which helps you grow as a player."
Already well into the rehab process, Ingram is looking forward to retaking the floor for his second year under Coach May.
"I'm just ready to get back out there and lead the guys, and with me and (Jaylen Sebree) ready to play, this year can be even better (than last year)."
