Maxson of Women’s Soccer Awarded Scholar All-Region

BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the second time in as many years, a Florida Atlantic University women's soccer player has earned United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region honors, with Alex Maxson being named to the All-South Region Second Team on Monday.
Maxson, a three-time member of the Conference USA All-Academic Team – becoming just the second Owl to achieve that – adds this first region honor to her accolades. She follows in the footsteps of former teammate Ebba Blomqvist, also a Second Team member a year ago. A native of Naples, Florida, Maxson holds a 3.88 cumulative GPA, with a double major in finance and international business, and will graduate in May.
"I am again honored and appreciative to be recognized for my academic achievements as a student-athlete at FAU," said Maxson. "This success was made possible by the tremendous support of my teammates, coaches, trainers, professors and academic support staff. We achieved great things as a team this year on the field and in the classroom, and I'm so fortunate to be a part of such a great team and university."
Criteria for the Scholar All-Regional Team is at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout the student-athlete's career, while starting more than 50 percent of all games and being a significant contributor to the team. Maxson joins seven C-USA student-athletes recognized Monday, three of which were chosen to the South Region Second Team (and one to the West Region Second Team). We have been blessed to have Alex for four years and complete her college career here at Florida Atlantic University. For Alex to be All-Region both as a player and student-athlete is a rare accomplishment. She leaves her mark as one of the most decorated student-athletes in our program's history."
