TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A career-high 18 points by junior guard
Richardson Maitre was not enough as the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team lost to Alabama 78-59 on Monday night. The Owls now stand at 1-2 on the year.
The Start
Alabama (1-1) came out and built a 21-11 lead just over 10 minutes into the game. It took the Owls less than two minutes to cut the lead to three, as
Madiaw Niang scored five straight points, followed by a pair of Maitre free throws after Alabama was whistled for a technical foul.
The Turning Point
Cornelius Taylor hit a jumper in the paint to cut the Crimson Tide's lead to two, 25-23, at the 4:22 mark of the first half. Alabama went on a 21-2 run over the next six and a half minutes of game time to extend its lead to 46-25.
The Finish
FAU got to within 13, but was unable to draw any closer down the stretch.

- In addition to his 18 points, Maitre also made four three-pointers and tied his career-high with seven rebounds
- He is the Owls' third different leading scorer in as many games this season
