Michael Marfione has joined the Florida Atlantic University athletics staff as an assistant athletic director of marketing, as announced by Jessica Poole, FAU's senior associate athletic director of external relations.
"I'm thrilled to bring Michael on board," said Poole. "Michael stood out among a group of exceptional candidates. His varied background and expertise working in a similar market will help us continue to take 'Winning in Paradise' to the next level. We're excited to have him join our team."
Marfione spent two years at the Air Force Academy as an assistant athletic director of marketing and fan experience. At Air Force, Marfione developed a comprehensive marketing and advertising plan for all ticketed sports, which led to increases in revenue for football by 20 percent and men's basketball by 18 percent. He also spearheaded several digital advertising strategies and social media initiatives in an effort to boost fan engagement and ticket sales.
"I am honored and excited to join the FAU athletics team," said Marfione. "Thanks to Brian White and Jessica Poole for the chance to work alongside an unbelievable group of staff, coaches, student-athletes and fans. I'm eager to rally the community around the unlimited potential of FAU athletics. I look forward to getting started and continuing to build the #WinningInParadise tradition."
Before his stint at Air Force, Marfione served as a coordinator of marketing and promotions at Boston University for five years. Marfione planned in-game presentations and promotions, as well as cultivated campus partnerships and other outreach strategies to drive attendance at BU men's and women's basketball games.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in sport management from Ithaca College, Marfione held marketing assistant roles at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Vermont.
