Women’s Soccer Posts Shutout Win in Lone Scrimmage

BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the second straight season, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team took a preseason scrimmage victory over Florida Gulf Coast, eking out a 1-0 win over the Eagles on Tuesday night.
Turning Point:
With under a minute to go in the second (of three) periods, FAU junior Elisha Holmes came down with a long pass, momentarily lost it among two defenders, but then regained control and raced past both Eagles before beating the keeper one-on-one. The tally came with just 18 seconds left to go in that frame, and would turn out to be the only score of the night for either team.
The Finish:
FGCU would not get another shot off the remainder of the game, those final 18 seconds plus the entire 30 minutes of the third period. FAU took the only three shots of the final period, and outshot the Eagles on the night, 11-4. Jennifer Ocampo, who played the second and third periods in net for the Owls, only had to record one save on the night and got the win.
Notables:
"It was a good night, we enjoy playing Florida Gulf Coast not only in the preseason, but in the spring, it's a great challenge no matter when you play them," said Head Coach Patrick Baker. "I've always said that they're going to stretch you, you're gonna know exactly where you're at, what you have. If you're playing really well, you're probably playing really well because they're a good team, and if you're not playing well, they're going to make you pay. It's just a great game to play because you need to be right on the edge, from an attacking and defending standpoint, and that's what tonight's game was able to provide for us."

- Fellow FAU goalkeeper Brianna Waggoner also had a save for FAU in 30 minutes of action
- All told, 25 Owls checked into the match, with none playing more than 60 minutes, and all playing at least 16
- Holmes' two shots led the squad, equaled by sophomore Sammy Vitols. Both of Holmes' were on goal, and one of Vitols' two was, for the team's total of three
