DELAND, Fla. -The Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team opened its 2018 season at the Stetson Spring Fling on Friday. The Sandy Owls lost to no. 4 Florida State in their first match, but nipped Eckerd College 3-2 in their second match.

Match 1 vs. Florida State

The Seminoles won four of the five scoring courts in straight sets. On the no. 1 court, Jessalyn Kinlaw and Gabrielle Dischler won the second set 21-17 to force a third set, but dropped the decisive frame 15-6 to clinch the sweep. FSU also swept the exhibition court.

Match 2 vs. Eckerd College

Dischler and Kinlaw won their match at no. 1 21-17, 21-15. On the no. 5 court, Ashlan Cunningham and Kaila Dorish were victorious in three sets to give FAU a 2-0 lead. Eckerd rallied, winning on both courts two and three to level the score at 2-2. The match then came down to court four, where Mackenzie Morris and Erica Brok scored a decisive 21-6, 21-10 decision to clinch the match for FAU.
