BOCA RATON, Fla. – The two-year career at Florida Atlantic University for women's soccer defender
Ebba Blomqvist has been filled with many honors, including one more this week, as she has been named to the United Soccer Coaches Women's Scholar All-South Region team.
Blomqvist, a native of Skovde, Sweden, has posted a GPA of 3.82 in biological science while helping lead the Owls to a share of the 2018 Conference USA regular season title, and consecutive trips to the league's postseason semifinal round. She played in 42 matches and tallied over 3,700 minutes on the pitch, was part of 14 shutouts, and recorded 18 points on eight goals on two assists.
"I am honored and grateful to receive this recognition," said Blomqvist. "Academics and athletics have always complemented each other in a great way here at FAU, and I am proud to represent my team and university in a respectable way both in the classroom and on the soccer field. There are always difficulties balancing athletics and academics as a student-athlete, and this recognition would not be possible without our awesome advisors and faculty helping us on a daily basis, thank you!"
To be eligible for the Scholar All-Regional Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team. Blomqvist was one of five C-USA student-athletes recognized, and one of only three to be chosen to the South Region Second Team. The full list can be found here:

"We are excited to have Ebba recognized by United States Coaches this year as a Scholar Athlete," said Head Coach
Patrick Baker. "Ebba truly embodies the excellence needed to excel in the classroom and on the soccer field. Her grades are a reflection of her dedication to her studies and she continues to push herself as a soccer player to the highest of levels. We have been blessed to have Ebba complete her college career here at Florida Atlantic University and she leaves her mark both academically and athletically on our women's soccer program."
