BOCA RATON, Fla. –
Alonso Coello Camarero was named to the Conference USA Men's Soccer All-Conference Third Team and All-Freshmen Team, the league announced on Tuesday, November 6.
"This is a great accomplishment and one that is well deserved for Alonso to be named to both the All-Conference Team and All-Freshmen Team," said head coach
Joey Worthen. "He has made an immediate impact within our team since he's arrived and clearly he's made an impact among the league as well. I look forward to him playing a major role on this team over the course of the next three years."
The Madrid, Spain native ended the season as the team's top assist earner with four along with one goal for six points. His six points are the second most on the team.
His play on the field proved to be crucial for the Owls throughout the season. Early in the year, Coello assisted on
Alex Alexis' game-winner against South Carolina. His lone goal came at FIU, when he blasted a shot from outside the penalty box on a free kick to give the Owls a 1-0 lead on the road. He also assisted on FAU's equalizing goal against No. 3 Kentucky on Senior Day.
