BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team continued its best start at the Division I level with a hard-fought 73-62 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday night. The Owls are now 5-1 on the season.
The Start
The Sailfish (1-4) stayed with FAU for most of the first half, as the Owls couldn't create more than a five-point lead, despite eight different players scoring in the first 20 minutes. A Jailyn Ingram 3-pointer put FAU ahead 33-30 at halftime.
The Turning Point
FAU couldn't shake PBA through the first six minutes of the second half, but a Simeon Lepichev layup began a run of 15 unanswered points to give the Owls a 56-41 lead.
The Finish
As had been the case all night, the Sailfish didn't go away and fought their way back to within six points with less than two minutes left in the game. FAU clamped down defensively and held the Sailfish scoreless the rest of the way.
