BOCA RATON, Fla. - (Nov. 14, 2018) – Four Florida Atlantic University volleyball players earned All-Conference honors from Conference USA, the league office announced on Wednesday. The announcement was made leading up to the Conference USA Tournament, which begins on Friday, Nov. 16, at Marshall in Huntington, W.Va.
Massiel Matos,
Sigourney Kame and
Ivone Martinez made the First Team, while
Abbi Reid made the Second Team.

Junior outside hitter Matos was named First Team All C-USA. Matos leads the team with 356 kills and kills per set at 3.67, which is good for sixth in the conference. She also has a team-high 18 double-digit kill matches so far this season and averages 2.37 digs per set and won C-USA Offensive Player of the Week twice this year.

"I feel very happy and proud to receive the All-Conference USA First Team award and very grateful to my team and coaches, because without them this wouldn't be possible," Matos pointed out. "I'm very blessed for being part of this amazing Owl family!"

Fellow junior outside hitter Kame made the First Team for the second season in a row. Kame ended the regular season second on the team in kills (304) and kills per set (3.62), which is immediately behind Matos, at seventh place in C-USA.

"I thank God to receive such an honor," Kame noted. "I have been blessed with awesome teammates and coaches that make me a better person and volleyball player every day. They make a huge impact in my like that helps be successful."

After making the Second Team last season, senior setter Martinez was elevated to the First Team this year. Martinez leads the nation in assists per set (12.60) for the second straight year. She has seven double-doubles on the season and 31 for her career. Her 1,222 helpers so far this season are the fourth-best single season total in FAU history and she is second in program history with 3,424 career assists.

"I'm really grateful and honored to make the First Team All-Conference," said Martinez. "I'm especially grateful to my team and my coaches, because this wouldn't be possible without them. We can't wait to start conference on Friday and go after that ring."

Senior middle blocker Reid was named to the Second Team for the second straight year. Reid, who was a First Team selection as a sophomore, leads the team with a .387 hitting percentage, while averaging 2.57 kills per set. She has 11 double-digit kill matches this year and is second in school history in career hitting percentage (.306) and seventh in block assists with 246.

"I'm so honored to make All-Conference this year for my senior season," said Reid. "All the hard work my teammates and I put in showed and I'm so proud of that."
