BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University has selected Massiel Matos and Anthony Adger as players of the week.
Â
Matos is coming off being honored as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The junior had an incredible final weekend of the regular season, tallying 12 kills in the Owls' five-set win over Rice, which led to FAU's first 20-win season in 13 years. Against Middle Tennessee on Sunday, Matos captured a match-high 20 kills and added 13 digs to claim her 12th double-double of the season. The Higuey, Dominican Republican, native averaged 3.56 kills and 2.0 digs per set, while hitting .273.
Â
Adger initiated his senior campaign on a high note with two double-digit scoring games to lead the Owls' to their first 2-0 start since the 2010-11 season. In FAU's 98-52 home opening win against Florida Tech, Adger racked up 16 points. On Sunday, it was the Owls' leading scorer from Anderson, South Carolina, who hit a key 3-pointer late in the game to set up an 80-79 win over UCF. Adger averaged 17.5 points and 3.0 rebounds on the weekend, while shooting 8-for-13 from beyond the arc after sinking just six 3-pointers last season.
Â
The volleyball Owls will be seeking their first NCAA tournament berth since 2005 at the C-USA Championship held in Huntington, West Virginia, this weekend. FAU is the No.4 seed and will play fifth-seeded North Texas in the first-round match this Friday at 2 p.m. The match will air on ESPN+.
