FAU Hosts Double Dual Meet

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- On an unusually cool day for Boca Raton, the Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in a double dual meet on Thursday afternoon.

The women's team took on North Florida and William & Mary. The Owls topped North Florida, 131-74 but lost to William & Mary, 165-66. William & Mary also defeated North Florida, 170-35.

The men's team competed against NJIT and William & Mary. FAU notched a 175-65 win against NJIT, but fell to William & Mary, 165-66. William & Mary defeated NJIT, 173-58.



The women had 15 top-five finishes throughout the meet. Spence Atkins claimed first for the Owls in the 500 yard (5:06.24) and 1000 yard freestyle (10:21.30). Natalie Clausen also earned points for FAU with a second-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle (5:12.58) and fourth place in the 1000 free (10:48.91).

Abby Marshall took third place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 00:25.18. Haley O'Meara also placed third in the 100 yard breaststroke event (1:09.48).

The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Lydia Musleh, Spence Atkins, Natalie Clausen and Sharon Kok took second place with a time of 3:41.99.


The men had 10 to finish in the top-five of their events. The Owls started out the meet with a third and fifth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. Later they would take second and fifth in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Will Smith headlined for the Owls with a second place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle (9:45.24) and a third place finish in the 500 yard freestyle (4:47.25). Phillip Crouch also had an impressive day, claiming second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:00.16). Team captain Cole Wisecarver had a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (00:48.54). Alex Taber clinched third in the 100 yard backstroke with a 00:53.76 time.

On the diving side, Logan Downey claimed first place in both the one and three meter events. Downey had a score of 307.42 in the one meter and 273.22 in the three. Miles Miller came in second to Downey in both events. He had a 205.94 score in the one meter and 256.20 in the three.


The Owls have a busy week with their second meet of the week coming on Saturday at Florida. That meet is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Natatorium.
