DENTON, Texas - A late rally by the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team came up just short, as the Owls fell to North Texas 59-53 on Thursday night. FAU is now 9-11 on the season and 3-5 in Conference USA play.
The Start
Both teams got off to a sloppy start, but the Mean Green (11-10, 4-4) led by 10, 25-15, with four minutes left in the first half. The Owls closed the half on a 9-1 run and a Ronald Delph jumper pulled FAU within two, 26-24, at the break.
The Turning Point
NT had a 34-28 lead with 14:08 to go in the game. The Owls rallied, led by Anthony Adger, who scored eight straight FAU points, including a jumper that tied the score at 43-43 with 7:43 remaining.
The Finish
After Adger's bucket evened the score, the Mean Green answered with a 7-2 run to take a 50-45 lead. The Owls got to within two after a Ronald Delph, but couldn't get any closer and North Texas was able to hang on for the win.
