SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - (Jan. 13, 2018) - For the second game in a row, the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team rode the hot second half shooting from a senior guard to a victory. This time, it was Gerdarius Troutman, who scored 16 of his 19 points after halftime to help the Owls to a 73-69 win over UTSA on Saturday.
The Start
FAU (8-9, 2-3 Conference USA) got out to a fast start, doubling up the Roadrunners (9-10, 2-4) 20-10 less than eight minutes into the game. UTSA rallied to take a 33-28 lead at the 3:00 mark of the first half. From that point, neither team had a lead larger than six points the rest of the game.
The Finish
That six-point lead belonged to the Owls, 59-53, with five and a half minutes to go in the contest. UTSA managed to tie the score at 61. Ronald Delph's layup capped a run of him scoring nine straight FAU points to put the Owls up 68-66 with 1:33 on the clock. The Roadrunners hit a three-pointer to take a one-point lead just 12 seconds later. After two empty possessions each for both teams, Troutman hit his fourth three-pointer of the half to give FAU a 71-69 lead with nine seconds left. FAU forced another UTSA turnover, then Troutman hit a pair of free throws to seal the win.
