FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team, for the second straight time in their tournament play at FGCU, was felled 1-0, this time by Kent State on Sunday morning.
Turning Point:
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, and each side came out more aggressive following the break, with many impressive saves. Kent State (1-3) was finally able to break through with 26:10 remaining on a breakaway goal by Cameron Shedenhelm.
The Finish:
The Golden Flashes bottled up the Owls for much of the remainder of the match, with just one shot attempted.
Notables:
Quotable:
"I thought we could rebound today against a good Kent State team," said Head Coach Patrick Baker. "We had our chances, (their) keeper made some good saves. We didn't have really great quality around the 18 and around the face of the goal. The game started to get stretched there in the middle of the second half; we had two or three looks at their goal, and very quickly they had two or three looks at ours, and (Shedenhelm) finished a nice chance."
What's Next:
Next for FAU is a trip north to Rochester, Michigan, to take on Oakland. That match, this Thursday, Sept. 7, is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The squad then returns home next Sunday to host College of Charleston at 1 p.m.
