Owls Open Season at Stetson Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team will open their 2017 season this weekend at the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Florida. The Owls will face Central Connecticut, Stephen F. Austin and the host Hatters at the event.
FAU, led by Fernanda Nelson, was chosen to finish seventh in the C-USA preseason poll, coming off of a fifth place conference finish with a 10-4 conference record. Junior Abbi Reid was named to the Preseason All-C-USA Team after making the All-Conference First Team last season.
History: The Owls will be facing CCSU for the first time in program history. Stephen F. Austin won the only previous meeting with FAU back on Oct. 29, 1994. Stetson is familiar foe for the Owls. This weekend's confrontation will be the 39th between the two teams, with FAU holding a 34-4 advantage. Last season, the Owls swept the Hatters 3-0 at the USF Invitational in Tampa.
Coverage: Friday's match against CCSU will start at 11 a.m., with the Stephen F. Austin match to follow at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's tilt with Stetson is also set for an 11 a.m. start and will air on ESPN3com. Live stats and a link to video of the Stetson match will be available at fausports.com.
Upcoming: FAU will travel to Fort Myers, Fla. for the FGCU Homewood Suites Classic on Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2.
