BOCA RATON, Fla. - A back-and-forth affair ended with the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball on the wrong side of a 60-55 score to UTEP on Thursday night. The contest featured five ties and 14 lead changes. The Owls fall to 9-17 overall and 5-10 in Conference USA play.
The Turning Point
After a Jeantal Cylla dunk put the Owls up 35-34, FAU made just one field goal over the next eight minutes as the Miners (12-15, 10-5) took a five-point lead, 42-37.
The Finish
UTEP again led by five, 58-53, when Adonis Filer converted a pair of free throws to pull the Owls within three with 56 seconds left. FAU made a defensive stop and had a chance to tie the game, but were unable to convert. The Miners had a wide open dunk that would have sealed the game, but it hit off the back rim. An official review determined that the Owls touched the resulting rebounds last, and UTEP made both free throws to ice the victory.

Quotables
Head Coach Michael Curry
"I thought we did a good job of not settling early and taking quick jumpers. We also had three (layup) opportunities in transition that we didn't convert. In a 60-55 game, those are killers. "
