BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will host three teams for the FAU Holiday Classic on December 29 and 30. The Owls and Delaware State will tipoff the tournament on Friday at noon, followed by Stetson versus UMKC at 2:30 at the FAU Arena.
GAME NOTABLES
Friday's game will be the third meeting between FAU (4-5) and Delaware (1-10) all-time. The series is currently tied 1-1. The Owls evened the series during the 2015-16 season with an 83-55 win at home. Previously, Delaware State claimed a 65-59 win over FAU during the 2005-06 season.
LAST TIME OUT
The Owls were last in action on December 19 at Nebraska, taking a 10-day break for the holidays. FAU was unable to upset the Cornhuskers on the road. With a lead early in the fourth quarter, the Owls fell late in the game to give up a 17-point loss at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Nebraska scorched the fourth quarter, shooting 85.7% from the floor. The Huskers missed only two shots in the entire period. Sasha Cedeño led FAU with 25 points and eight rebounds.
SCOUTING DELAWARE STATE
The Hornets have won only one game this season. That win came against Longwood on November 29. Delaware State is led in scoring by NaJai Pollard who is averaging 17.6 points per game this season. She has played in seven of the Hornets' 11 games. Pollard is also Delaware State's leading rebounder, averaging 6.6 boards per game. Lanayjha Ashe is also averaging double figures with 10.1 points per game. Ashe leads the team in assists with 32 on the year.
