Florida Atlantic University would like to congratulate the 17 student-athletes representing eight different teams that will graduate this fall. To celebrate our student-athletes, FAU Athletics hosted a reception for the graduates and their families.
Vice President and Director of Athletics Pat Chun opened the reception thanking the academic support staff and student-athletes' families for their support.
To the student-athletes, "We thank you for what you guys have done. A lot of you have been a part of some great turnarounds in our athletic program." Chun continued, "Some of you came to our program just a couple years ago when our GPA was a 2.7-2.8 GPA, now it is above a 3.0. You guys know on the field what you guys have done. I look back and this year is probably going to be our greatest year athletically and academically in our athletic program and that is thanks to you."
This graduating class helped FAU reach its best academic standing with a Graduation Success Rate of 81% and Federal Graduation Rate of 60%, both above the national average.
Eric Coleman, associate athletic director for academic excellence, spoke on the commitment the department has to its student-athletes, current and past.
"Our commitment isn't just while you're here with the Owls," Coleman said. "When you transition into the real world, we are still committed to you all. We're `Owl In' and we're not just saying that, its not lip service. We are all committed and regardless of where you are in the world, feel free to know that you have a support system here forever with us."
Some of our student-athletes spoke on their time here at FAU.
Baseball's Cameron Ragsdale: "FAU has been a one-of-a-kind university. It's been a place where I enjoyed time as a DI athlete and where I have earned a degree that will help better my future."
Women's soccer grad Lucy Carter: "The past four years at FAU have been an amazing experience. During my time here, I have learned so much about life both on and off the field. I will always be grateful to those that helped me to get here and pushed me along the way. I have so many great memories to look back on and most importantly I have met some incredible people from all over the world who will be my friends for life."
Men's soccer's Daniel Del Rio: "FAU provided me with not only the best experience to my college career, but also lifetime friends. I would like to thank everyone at FAU that helped me along my short journey."
