CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team closed out its regular season with a sweep of Charlotte on Saturday. The Owls are now 18-8 on the year and finish Conference USA play with a 9-5 record.
Key Plays
The first set was tight the entire way, with neither team managing a lead larger than two points. There were 13 ties and four lead changes in the set, the final one coming at 21. An Abbi Reid kill and Mimi Marion and Ivone Martinez put FAU up 23-21. Charlotte trimmed the lead to one twice, but Sigourney Kame's sixth kill of the day ended the frame. After a close start in the second set, the Owls reeled off an 11-5 run and withstood a late 49er rally to win 25-20. Similar to the first two sets, the third stanza started off close, but FAU steadily built a lead that the 49ers were unable to overcome. A Sydney Riggs kill completed the sweep for the Owls.
