TAMPA, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team opened its 2017-18 regular season in disappointing fashion, falling 60-59 to USF on Friday night.
The Turning Point
USF (1-0) led 33-22 with less than two minutes less to go in the first half. From that point, FAU went on a 16-2 run over the next 6:37 to take a 38-35 lead at the 16:55 mark. The Bulls regained the lead and stretched it to seven. The Owls again rallied to the game at 49 with 7:37 left, setting up the dramatic finish.
The Finish
A Ronald Delph putback made the score 59-56 in the Owls' favor, with 80 seconds left to play. FAU didn't score for the rest of the game and a Stephan Jiggetts jumper regained the advantage for USF with 12 ticks remaining. The Owls got a look at a three-pointer just before the buzzer, but it came up short.
