BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team and UAB drew on Sunday afternoon, 1-1, in a very evenly-played matchup at FAU Soccer Stadium.
Turning Point:
After the Owls (6-5-2, 1-2-1 Conference USA) got on the board in the 23rd minute, courtesy of an Elisha Holmes goal, Amy Brewer knotted it up with a goal of her own for UAB (8-1-3, 2-0-1 C-USA) in the 60th.
The Finish:
Each team got off two shots in extra time (UAB one in each frame, and both of FAU's coming in the first OT), with only one on target, and the best chance for a game-winner: Holmes again, but it was saved in the 95th minute by Blazers' keeper Kelsey Daugherty.
Notables:
Quotable:
"I thought we got off to a better start than we did on Friday," said Head Coach Patrick Baker. "Elisha scored a nice goal for us to get us on top, and then they scored an equalizer ... which was a little disappointing. All in all probably a fair result (and) a valuable point at home."
What's Next:
FAU has a split weekend coming up, and two more C-USA matchups on the docket. The fourth and final match of the squad's homestand is this Thursday night versus Southern Mississippi, at 7 p.m., and then the Owls travel to Charlotte for a match on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m.
