Owls Nipped by UTEP 66-65 in Overtime

EL PASO, TEXAS - A game that was close the entire way came down to the final buzzer, with the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team coming up just short against UTEP 66-65 in overtime on Saturday night. FAU is now 5-11 on the year and 1-4 in C-USA play.
The Turning Point
After Gerdarius Troutman hit a three-pointer to force the extra session, UTEP (4-13, 1-3) had an eight-point lead with 1:15 to go. The Owls scored the next four points and came up with a defensive stop to set up the conclusion of the contest.
The Finish
Troutman hit his sixth triple of the night to trim the Miner lead to 66-65 with 3.2 seconds left. After an FAU timeout, the Owls unsuccessfully attempted to commit a foul, and UTEP was able to run out the clock.
Notables
- Gerdarius Troutman was the Owls' leading scorer for the second straight game, nailing six threes on his way to a career-high 22 points. He also dished out two assists.
- Nick Rutherford had 13 points, four assists and two rebounds.
- Jeantal Cylla posted 10 points and six rebounds.
- Adonis Filer had eight points, three rebounds and four assists.
- FAU outrebounded UTEP 39-37 on the night.
