BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Florida Atlantic University track and field squad finished up opening weekend of the indoor season with the conclusion of the Vulcan Invite on Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex Arena.
Notables:
- Mikaela Jonsson completed up a successful debut weekend with a fourth-place showing in the 800-meter run, racing to a time of 2:16.69. She shot all the way up to eighth on the FAU all-time list with her fast finish
- In the same race, Carydaliz Fontanez set a personal best at 2:20.02. She was less than second out of ninth place
- Christina Schultz was fourth in the 5,000 meters, with a new personal record, and Jasmine Van Tine placed ninth. They ran times of 18:33.51 and 19:30.05, respectively
- In the 1-mile run, Erica Lersch placed 12th, crossing the line with a PR as well of 5:24.07
- Sophia Clark was 11th in the 3,000 meters, setting a new best of 11:09.67. Right behind her and also setting PR's were Johanna Freeman (12th, 11:17.23) and Emily Ludwig (13th, 11:20.39)
- Crystal McDougle tied for eighth in the 60 meter hurdle preliminaries, running a 8.97
- Frida Thorsås competed in multiple events. She was 11th in the long jump, leaping 5.22 meters, and threw shot put a distance of 11.97 meters
- In the triple jump, Anne-Catherine Wasser was just out of the top 10 with a 10.99 meter length, but moved into the FAU all-time best, in sixth place

Next Saturday, the track and field contingency stays closer to home, as they will be in Daytona Beach for the Embry-Riddle Indoor/Outdoor Challenge.
