Sandy Owls Beat Tulane at FIU Surf and Turf Tournament

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. The Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team took part in the FIU Surf and Tournament on Saturday, defeating Tulane 3-2, before falling to #8 Georgia State 4-1 and #2 USC 5-0.
FAU defeated Tulane 3-2 in its first match of the day. Chelsey Tekavec and Andrea Galinis won their match at no. 3 in straight sets to put the Owls up 1-0. Brittany Pellitteri and Heather Weiss lost at no. 2 to even the match at 1-1. Delaney Clesen and Gabrielle Dischler recovered from a first set loss to win in three sets at no. 1. Natalie Fraley and Nicole Grant outlasted the Green Wave tandem at no. 4 to clinch the match for FAU. At no. 5, Nicole Navarro and Julia Lewkowicz won the first set and forced extra points in the third, but ultimately fell 21-19.
The Owls fell to no. 8 Georgia State 4-1 in their second match. Lewkowicz and Cunningham won on court five to avoid the sweep. FAU was swept by USC 5-0 in their final match.
FAU will participate in the Fiesta on Siesta Key tournament on April 8 and 9.
