BOCA RATON, Fla.- FAU Track and Field shine at UM Alumni Invitational that took place Friday and Saturday. Frida Thorsås returns from the University of Miami Alumni Invitational with a first place finish in addition to other new school records.
"We had a good weekend, anytime you're able to break multiple school records and set a whole bunch of personal bests it's exciting!" The name of the game throughout the regular season is progress, and this weekend we certainly made some! With two regular-season meets left before our C-USA champs, we are happy how most of the team is progressing!" said head coach Alex Smolka.
Frida Thorsås had a big win Saturday placing first over all in the heptathlon with 5465 points which included jumping 5.34m in the long jump, a new school record in the javelin of 44.23m, and 2:12.78 in the 800m run.
On the sprint side, in the 100m hurdles Ashley Stewart placed 15th (14.17), Crystal McDougle 20th (14.38), Cassidy Smith 29th (14.90). In the 100m dash, Deja Jones placed 9th (11.73), Jada Massie 13th (11.79), Leila Elliot 30th (12.47) and Assata Trader 31st (12.58). Sitia Martinez placed 5th in the 400m hurdles (1:01.25) followed by teammates McDougle 13th (1:04.57) and Smith 14th (1"04.61). In the 4x100m relay the team comprised of Jones, Martinez, Massie and Regina Wilkerson placed 3rd (45.5). Wilkerson placed 20th in the 200m das (24.66), Elliot 27th (24.93), Massie 34th (25.21), Sherline Valentin 40th (25.49), Mar'Rhea Everheart 44th (25.58), Berneta Boldin 45th (25.70), and Trader 51st (25.90). Mar'Rhea Everheart placed 8th in the long jump (5.26m).
On the distance side, freshman Bethany Hardcastle placed 9th in the 800m run (2:21.00), followed by teammates Cary Fontanez 12th (2:23.88), Christina Humphries 17th (2:31.23), and Jessica Brinson 18th (2:32.41). In the 1500m run senior Kia Heller-Spencer placed 6th (4:50.64) followed by teammates Jasmine Van Tine 15th (5"12.46), Humphries 17th (5:13.67), and freshman Emily Latimer 20th (5:26.29). In the 5000m run freshman Sophia Clark placed 8th (19:43.07), followed by Kimberly Jones 13th (20:27.05), Kelsey Meltzer 16th (21:33.34), Gabriella Ciraco 17th (22:04.45) and Grace Mendez 20th (23:40.84).
The meet closed with the 4x400m relay with the team of Martinez, Wilkerson, Boldin and Valentin placing 8th (3:49.43) and the other team placing 14th comprised of Elliot, Fontanez, Hardcastle and Brinson (4:08.31).
