BOCA RATON, Fla. - (Feb. 27, 2016) -Once again, the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team rallied from a big second half deficit, but it came up just short, as the Owls fell to rival FIU 71-63 on Saturday.
The Turning Point
After trailing by as many as 19 in the second half, the Owls (7-22, 5-11 Conference USA) had the ball, trailing by six with 19 seconds left, but missed a three-pointer that would have cut the deficit in half. The Panthers (13-16, 7-9) grabbed the rebound and made a pair of free throws to provide the final score.
Notables
• Nick Rutherford tied his career high with 16 points to lead FAU. He was joined in double figures by Adonis Filer and Solomon Poole with 10 each. Rutherford also added a game high five assists and five steals.
• Filer and Ronald Delph had six rebounds each to lead the Owls.
• Daviyon Draper (21 points, 13 rebounds) and Adrian Diaz (17 points, 10 rebounds) both had double-doubles for the Panthers. Donte McGill added 19 points.
• The Owls were outrebounded 46-31 on the day.
