BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic Women's tennis hosted Eastern Michigan on Thursday and came away with a 4-3 victory. The win was FAU's third consecutive victory. After wining the doubles point FAU held on to win the match in singles with FAU sophomore Marisa Ruiz clinching the match at the No. 3 position.
Ruiz defeated Marie Mayerova in 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to seal the victory. Ruiz evens her record at 4-4 with the win. FAU sophomore Jennifer Leib defeated Renu Sharma 6-3, 6-2 for second win on the season. Leib also teamed with FAU junior Jazz Whittaker to defeat Anna Veleva and Renu Sharma in doubles 6-4. FAU junior Ana Guiterrez defeated Ani Gogbadze 6-2, 6-0 to improve to 4-2 on the season.
"The FAU ladies have all recognized their strengths and are using them to their advantage," said FAU head coach Marcy Cava.
"It was a tough match which makes this win even more rewarding."
The Owls return to action Friday Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. against Oakland, at Star Island Resort in Orlando, FL.
