HOUSTON, Texas --Having five players in double-figures was not enough to hold off a second half rally, as the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team fell to Rice 90-85 on Thursday. FAU (7-20, 5-9, Conference USA) held a 49-40 halftime lead, but Rice (10-16, 5-8 C-USA) shot 64.3 percent in the second half to rally to victory.
The Turning Point
Adonis Filer tied the game at 84 with 1:34 to go, but a Rice layup and a missed three by FAU led to the Texas version of the Owls going 4-for-4 at the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
Notables
• Marquan Botley had a season high 19 points to lead FAU. Botley made all five of his field goal attempts, all of which came from behind the arc and went 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.
• In addition to Botley, Ronald Delph (17), Solomon Poole (14), Jeantal Cylla and Filer (10 each) all scored in double-digits.
• Jackson Trapp made two three-pointers on the night, giving him 167 in his FAU career and passing Ryan Hercek for fifth in school history. As a team, FAU made a season-high 15 three-pointers on the night.
• Nick Rutherford dished out a career high eight assists. FAU notched assists on 25 of its 30 baskets, the highest total of the season.
• Rice's Marcus Evans had 29 points on the night, the most by an opposing player this season.
