Owls Drop Heartbreaker to Hawaii 64-63

HONOLULU, Hawaii - (November 15, 2016) - A layup with eight seconds left was the difference in the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team's 64-63 loss to Hawaii on Tuesday. The game was the final game of the Outrigger Rainbow Classic and also was televised on ESPN2 as part of its tip-off marathon.
The Turning Point
Hawaii (2-1) led by four with 3:36 to go when the Owls (0-3) went on an 8-0 run to take a 63-59 lead with 1:07 left in the game.
The Finish
The Warriors converted a three-point play with 49 seconds remaining to trim the lead to one. FAU missed the front end of a one-and-one, setting the stage for the final basket. The Owls had a chance to win the contest and appeared to draw heavy contact on the final shot attempt, but no foul was called, giving Hawaii the win.
Notables
- Ronald Delph scored a career high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in just 21 minutes of action for his fourth career double-double. Delph was named to the all-tournament team.
- Jeantal Cylla chipped in 12 points.
- Frank Booker hit three three-pointers and scored 11 points.
- Jailyn Ingram pulled down five rebounds and notched two assists, two blocks and two steals in his first collegiate start.
- Nick Rutherford had eight points, six rebounds, four assists and a block.
