CONCORD, N.C. - The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country squads competed at the Conference USA Championships on Saturday morning.
Men's Notables:

- Four Owls finished within 10 spots of each other, and less than a minute apart. Jonathan Werble was 60th in 27:44, just three seconds away from a PR. Sophomore John Marting did set a new PR Saturday, by 13 seconds, and his 27:53 finish slotted him 62nd
- In his postseason debut, Lachlan Shiver was just two seconds shy of a new best, finishing 67th in 28:22, while Ross Rabalais was 69th at 28:26
Women's Notables:
- Six women navigated the 5K in under 20 minutes, with junior Liz Wellman the first to break the tape, in 34th at 18:37. It was her lowest time of the season, by 27 seconds, and top personal time since the 2014 C-USA Championships
- Christina Schultz was next, ending the race in 55th with a time of 19:20
- Finishing back-to-back were Bethany Hardcastle (19:38.9) and Johanna Freeman (19:40.3), in 70th and 71st. Freeman's time is a new PR, by 14 seconds
- Chloe Sell ran the next-to-last XC event of her five-year collegiate career, completing it in 19:58.1, while just behind her was Sophia Clark, at 19:59.5 (just a second away from a PR)
Quotable:
"Against very tough competition, and on a hilly unforgiving course, we were able to run a number of season and personal bests on both men's and women's squads," said Head Coach Alex Smolka. "Although the overall results weren't exactly what we were hoping for, I am very proud of how we competed today. With only one senior on both squads, the future looks very bright."
What's Next:
Members of both squads will compete in the 2016 South Region Championship, in Tallahassee, Florida on Friday, Nov. 11.
