BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team will wrap up its three-match homestand against rival FIU on Friday before traveling to Marshall on Sunday. The Owls can clinch their fourth straight trip to the Conference USA tournament with either one win or a UTEP loss.
Last Week: FAU (12-10, 7-1 Conference USA) extended its winning streak to seven with two victories over the weekend. The winning streak is the Owls' longest under Fernanda Nelson. FAU swept Louisiana Tech on Friday, then got the better of Southern Miss on Sunday to take sole possession of second place in the C-USA standings. Senior Genesis Viera was named C-USA Setter of the Week, averaging 46 assists in FAU's two wins. FIU (8-15, 2-7) split its two matches last weekend, losing to Marshall in four sets, before sweeping Louisiana Tech on Sunday. Marshall (17-6, 6-2) enters the weekend tied with UTSA for fourth place. The Thundering Herd's win over FIU was its only match last weekend.
History: FIU holds a slight 29-26 lead over the Owls in the all-time series, a margin that was narrowed by a FAU sweep earlier this season in Miami. Marshall has won three of the previous four meetings with the Owls, although FAU won for the first time in the series in last year's match, a sweep in Boca Raton.
Coverage: Live stats and live video of both matches will be available at fausports.com. Friday's match begins at 7 p.m., while Sunday's match will start at 1 p.m.
