BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" A three-time All-Conference weapon for the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team, senior Claire Emslie has been named a candidate for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award.
The award recognizes student-athletes based on four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Emslie is one of just 30 candidates selected for the preliminary list, which will be narrowed down to 10 finalists midway through the regular season. Those ten will be placed on a ballot to be voted upon by media, coaches and fans.
Emslie is a captain of the 3-1 FAU squad and was named preseason All-Conference USA in August. She ranks among the all-time leaders at FAU in goals, points and shots and has one goal on the season thus far. The Scotland native boasts a 3.87 GPA and is a four-time member of the Dean's List and a three-time member of the President's List.
In total, 30 men's and 30 women's soccer student-athletes were selected as candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Of the 60 candidates, 25 have grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher, four are returning All-Americans and eight are on the preseason watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, which recognizes the top player in collegiate soccer. Outside of academics and athletics, all candidates also have been consistently involved in community service on their campus or in their communities.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2015 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
