BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team jumped from an opening day T17 to ninth overall after the third round of the Arkansas State University RedWolves Invitational.
The tournament, featuring 21 teams, was held at Ridge Pointe Country Club, a par 71 course. While the Owls finished ninth with a team total 894, Delta State University captured the event with an 876 score.
Individually, the Owls were led by Michael Perez, each of the three rounds for a tournament score of 221 (74, 73, 74) and a T15 place finish. Connor O'Rourke was one of two Owls to shoot par in the second round and finished the tournament T28 with a three-round score of 223 (78-71, 74). Two shots back was Pablo Gerboles-Parrilla who shot 225 (78, 74, 73) and Cody Christensen rounded out the team scorers shooting a 228 (82-72-74) for T46. Derron Peyton, the other FAU player to shoot par in the second round, finished the tournament 88th with a 236 (83-71, 82) three-round total. As a team, the Owls shot an average of 79 in the first round. The second round FAU shed an average of 6.8 strokes off the team score with a 72.2. The final round FAU averaged 75.4.
The ASU event is the final regular-season match for the Owls, who will next participate in the C-USA Tournament April 26-29 held at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark.
