DELAND, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University sand volleyball team officially opened its 2015 season at the Stetson Invitational on Friday, losing to the host Hatters 3-2 before sweeping Eckerd 5-0.

Delaney Clesen and Alyssa Warren lost the first set at no. 4, but were able to rally to take the point with an 18-16 win in the final set. At no. 5, Natalie Fraley and Lexi Rhein won the first set 21-19, dropped the second set 21-14, but won the clincher going away, 15-6. Stetson won at nos. 1-3 to take the match.

FAU swept Eckerd in its second match of the day. All five matches were sweeps. Warren and Clesen had the most decisive victory, winning 21-11 and 21-12 on the no. 4 court, while Gabrielle Dischler and Beth Shoaff had the most competitive match, winning 22-20 and 21-18 at no. 2.

Tournament action will take place on Saturday with FAU, FIU, Eckerd and Stetson all competing in the event.
