BOCA RATON, Fla - Florida Atlantic University's men's basketball will concluded its five-consecutive road swing when the Owls face Hofstra, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 22 in Hempstead, N.Y.
The Owls will enter the game with a 2-9 record, but may be playing their best basketball to date with a seven point loss at Eastern Kentucky and two strong outings at Tennessee and versus Florida State in the Orange Bowl Classic. FSU took its first lead with nine minutes to play. There were four lead changes over the next five minute of play with the Owls final lead over the Seminoles at 56-55 with 3:30 to play.
The Pride are 6-4 on the year and hold a 5-3 all-time mark against FAU. While the two teams have familiarity, the coaching staffs are as well. FAU assistant coach Erick Snow and Hofstra assistant Craig "Speedy" Claxton were both members of the 2001-02 Philadelphia 76ers. Snow started 61 games that season and averaged 12.1 points, 6.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds for the 76ers who finished fourth in the Atlantic Division after 43 wins. Claxton averaged 7.2 points, 3.0 assists, 2.4 rebounds and saw action in 67 games with 18 starts.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN 760AM (due to the Boca Raton Bowl scheduled for ESPN 106.3). Live stats will be available at fausports.com. In-game updates will be available at twitter.com/FAU_Hoops.
Note:
Sophomore C.J. Turman has been dismissed from the FAU men's basketball team, announced FAU Head Coach Michael Curry, on Monday.
"C.J. has not lived up to the standards required to be a member of our basketball family," said Curry. "We have worked extremely hard to establish a culture within our program that will lead to a lifetime of success for our student-athletes. C.J. has not met the necessary obligations which led to this decision. We love C.J. and wish only success for him in the future."
