GREENVILLE, N. C. - For the second straight game, a hot shooting opponent was the culprit as the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team lost to East Carolina 74-48 on Tuesday night.
Both teams got out of the gate slow to begin the game, with each team managing just one bucket through four minutes of game action. The Pirates (4-3) hit a three-pointer that kickstarted a 24-6 run, allowing them to go up 26-8. The lead ballooned to 21 before Jesse Hill hit a triple that cut the margin to 32-14 at the half. FAU shot just 20 percent as a team from the floor in the first half.
The Owls (1-5) field goal percentage improved to 50 percent after the break, but the Pirates' lead never fell below 18 and was as large as 31 in the second half.
Solomon Poole was the only Owl in double figures with 11 points. C.J. Turman and Jackson Trapp each added nine.
FAU will take some time off before hosting Ave Maria on Thursday, Dec. 10. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and live stats and live video will be available at fausports.com. The game also will be broadcast on ESPN 106.3 and in-game updates will be available at twitter.com/FAU_Hoops. Tickets can be purchased by calling the FAU Ticket Office at 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
